German FinTech VC 2021 Starts With a Hooray
German FinTech VC 2020 Was Down YoY
German FinTech VC 2020 was down yoy for the first time in the short history of the sector. 2020 investments totalled €1.38bn down 21% yoy.
January 2021 Was Strong on Any Measure
However, the sector had a spectacular start to 2021. We admit, that monthly figures for a small VC country like Germany and for just one sector can be extremely volatile, nonetheless we think it is important to present highlights below:
– 13 Deals are in line with historical average already, revisions might still lead to a record January
– 9 large deals with at least €10m investment volume represent a record start to the year
– FinTech investment volume of €275m make January 2021 the second best start to the year ever after 2019 only. The latter was, however, benefiting from N26’s bumper round of €260m. With this January 2021 already matches 20% of FY2020.
