German Mortgage Lending With Worst Start to the Year Ever
The volume of German new mortgages in January 2023 almost halved compared to the year-ago period. Total new mortgages of €12.7bn are the slowest start to the year since the beginning of the time series in 2003, and this is not even taking into consideration house price inflation.
